Permaculture is a term coined in 1978 by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, acting as a contraction of the words permanent and agriculture. It is a set of holistic design principles that revolve around regenerative agriculture, rewilding, community, and organizational design. It involves efficient, layered, and consciously designed systems such as rain gardens, edible landscaping, or rooftop gardens that create long term sustainability while being woven into cultural and natural systems of the space.
